HOLIDAY || In-Flight Essentials.

I'm flying to New York tomorrow - give me a second, I need to let that sink in because oh my gosssssh I am so excited! I absolutely love living in London but there's just something about New York. It's beautiful, busy, glamorous, and bustling with possibilities. No wonder it's been the inspiration for so much great literature, music, and movies over the years. The only slight downfall of holidaying in the States? The long-haul flights, combined with security, customs, and luggage on either side of the journey. I like to think of Duty-Free as a little treat to congratulate yourself on making it thus far to the airport! And all impulse VAT-free purchases will be Instagrammed and Tweeted, don't you worry.
In honour of my upcoming trip, I thought I'd put together my own little 'In-Flight Essentials' of anything I need at a moment's notice during a long-haul flight.

One of these days I will stop raving about the Dr. PAWPAW* multipurpose balm ... LOL jk I love it too much and I always carry round a tube. If I didn't love it, I wouldn't always be banging on about it - let's just put it that way ha. A balm that doubles up as a lip balm, moisturiser, cuticle cream, and serves many other magical purposes - this is the kind of product you want with you on a 10 hour flight. Because who knows when you're going to feel the urge to moisturise and apply lip balm at the same time? See, method in my madness.
I gave a fleeting mention to the brilliance of CoLab Dry Shampoo in my last Vlog. It's simple really, a dry shampoo that doesn't leave any residue so you're not reminded that you had to skip the shower this morning when you run your fingers through your hair. Winning. Oh and great at adding a bit of a volume when you're on the go... or on an aeroplane, either way.
I've fast become one those girls who feels naked without lipstick - Charlotte Tilbury's 'Miss. Kensington' is my go-to nude, perfect for days when you're not quite feeling a bold lip and a shade I will most definitely be wearing in the taxi to the airport, in the airport, reapplied after multiple cups of coffee, on the plane, and probably everyday in New York too. Because why fix something that isn't broken?
An obvious one now - don't forget your phone... which, in all honesty, probably isn't even a possibility for me because I'm so pathetically attached to all my devices. But when it comes to travelling, messages, Instagram, Twitter, all that marlarky becomes secondary to my favourite playlists. If you're a bit of a nervous traveller, music can really help calm nerves and just make you feel normal. And tune out that screaming baby too - win, win.
I usually hit up the magazine stand big time before boarding a flight - I'm not even sure why anymore, because it's tradition - but like the true English student that I am, I also like to have a book to delve into. Polly Vernon's 'Hot Feminist' is my current read and I've been loving it. In fact, I'm racing through it so fast that I'm deliberately having to pace myself, it's been left at home the past few days so I'm not tempted to read in my lunch break! I just think it'll be the perfect beach read for when we're in the Hamptons and I don't want to waste it on irrelevant bus journeys and lunch breaks... please say I'm not the only one who does this? Anyway, the book is smart, funny, and raises such important issues about what it is to be a modern-day Feminist. Polly Vernon is such an inspiration to young aspiring writers, a total must-read if you ask me.
Oh and sunglasses are a no-brainer when it comes to keeping stylish and disguising your levels of exhaustion. I don't really buy into the 'Perfect Airport Outfit' façade - personally, I like to strike the balance between put-together and pyjama-levels-of-comfort. These usually results in jeans and trainers. Here's where sunglasses come in - a pair of fashionable shades (mine are last season WHISTLES) can just add a bit of 'umph' to an outfit which I crave when I step off a long-haul flight and am feeling a little worse for wear. The bigger the better, large sunglasses can cover a multitude of sins... or measly under-eye bags in my case, but you get the gist. And you look like Audrey Hepburn in the process which can never be a bad thing.
                         That's it, my compiled list of LydiaLulu approved In-Flight Essentials. Writing this has got me all excited, this trip feels real now. No matter how stupid that sounds. Also, I've been on my blogging game recently and have scheduled posts going live despite my absence from the country. Make sure to give my other social media platforms a follow if you're interested in seeing what I get up to in the States as it happens - either way, it'll only be a matter of time before it appears on the blog in some form! Eeeek, I can't wait!
