DIARY || A Hard-Working Student and Slacking Blogger.

I’m writing this in the library, sitting in the same seat I’ve sat in for five consecutive days, eating a half-melted chocolate bar, and failing to make any kind of headway on Joseph Conrad’s ‘Heart of Darkness’ (apparently voted the 68th greatest book of all time, in case you are at all interested… can’t say I am personally haha). Woe is me, blah blah blah.
Except I don’t want this to be one of those posts where I ramble on about why I haven’t been blogging and how much I’ve missed it – that’s kind of a given by now – but more of a catch up with what’s been going on in my life. Because things sure as hell have been the past five months.
I signed up for a marathon back in January. Yeah, that happened. Who would have thought? Sure as hell not me. It happened in quite a funny way really – one of my best friends Naomi was trying to recruit other students to join her in running the Budapest Marathon in aid of The Children’s Society and I offered to help her hand out leaflets around campus. A couple of days later, me, my best friend Nancy, and my flatmate were all signed up. It was a little surreal but one of those fantastically spontaneous moments that only ever happen at university when you have nothing to lose. To be honest, it really deserves its own post where I can delve into details about training plans and all that malarkey but it definitely needed a mention here. After all, The Children’s Society is such a worthwhile, amazing charity and I’m incredibly proud to be raising money for them.
The past five months have also been hectic in other ways. Uni work always keeps me on my toes which I’m sure any students out there will understand. I also turned 21 back in March! Definitely time to edit my ‘About’ page accordingly and go on a night out in the States now that I can legally drink over there. Oh, and I’m also donning some seriously blonder, shorter hair these days – just trying to keep you up to date haha.
Balancing an active social life, the demands of uni work, and trying to get involved in extra-curricular activities (scoring those employability points...!) can be hard at times. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have my moments where it all gets on top of me and end up ignoring it all by watching hundreds episodes of ‘Absolutely Fabulous’ on Netflix. Because that’s what being an adult is all about, right?
Anyway, I was desperate to capture some of these thoughts and put pen to paper. I’m truly sad that I haven’t posted anything since December of last year. The truth is, creating content that I’m happy with takes a long time. I’m a perfectionist and extremely self-critical of my work – university essays and blog posts alike. If only some of my readers could see the half-written blog post drafts that clog up my Blogger feed! I suppose what I really want to say is that LydiaLulu hasn’t been forgotten, but was definitely put on the back-burner as I tried to navigate the madness that has been my second year at Southampton.
Despite my absence on the online front, my beauty-and-fashion-purchasing habits definitely haven’t changed – in fact, this means I have a ton of new products to write about! Looks like I won’t be lacking inspiration for new content any time soon. I officially break up for Summer next Wednesday and my plan is to post three times a week – Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 12pm – because I work best when I’m sticking to a schedule. I have to say, I’m honestly excited to get stuck in. Blogging will always have a very special place in my heart. But until next week, I should crack on with this book… x
